Recording Guitars for the New EP

Ben and I have been working on the solo for a new song called Down to the City.

After some experimentation with different sounds and approaches we finally settled on a composition that worked but still couldn't decide on which guitar we preferred - the Gibson Les Paul, or the Fender Stratocaster.

Here's a clip of me and Ben in the studio recording guitars for this new song, which will feature on the new EP. In the video - by way of comparison - the Strat is being played on the first half of the solo and the Les Paul is being played on the second half.

Check it out and see what you think.

Granted, it's not easy to make a comparison when you're not sat in the room and you're not able to hear the guitars sitting in the mix properly but we did put it to a vote on Facebook and Instagram and the Gibson Les Paul seems to be your overriding favourite so far.

As is often the case, Ben and I are actually leaning more towards the Fender Stratocaster because, as Ben quite rightly puts it, it's chewier somehow! It sounds great in the mix too but then again so does the Les Paul.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions.

More news on this when we've been a bit more decisive.
